Tacoma (Guide)

Tacoma along Commencement Bay in southern Puget Sound offers strong boating facilities and marinas for exploring the area and accessing broader Sound waters. Fishing is productive for salmon flounder and other species from boats or piers with favorable tides improving opportunities near structure. Beaches and waterfront parks provide spots for recreation and some shellfishing in season where permitted. Nearby trails and urban attractions round out the options for visitors using tide charts to time their water based activities safely.

Supports small to large boats with trailer parking; tidal currents in Commencement Bay require caution for safe launches and navigation. Discover Pass required for parking.

Point Defiance Park Beach Access (Other)

Public beach and shoreline access at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma with sandy/rocky shores, parking, restrooms, trails, and picnic areas for walking, beachcombing, shore fishing, and low tide tide pooling. Offers views of Puget Sound and Vashon Island; tidal changes expose rocks and affect currents so check tide charts for safe beach activities and avoid high water.
