Cape Kiwanda (Tide Pool)

Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area in Pacific City on the central-north coast features striking sandstone cliffs and a massive dune, with rocky areas at the cape's base exposing good tide pools at low tide harboring anemones, sea stars, mussels, barnacles, crabs, and small fish. This dynamic spot offers thrilling wave views and dune climbing; family-friendly with beach access but use caution near cliffs and surf. Best at calm minus tides - parking can fill quickly; a unique blend of dune and marine adventure.

Pacific City (Guide)

Pacific City on Oregons northern coast offers excellent surf and jetty fishing for surfperch, rockfish, lingcod, greenling and cabezon with moving tides stirring bait around the Cape Kiwanda jetties and Nestucca River mouth for stronger bites. Check current ODFW regulations before heading out.

Public boat ramps at Pacific City Boat Ramp and the nearby Nestucca Bay provide convenient launches slips fuel and access to Nestucca Bay and the Pacific but the Nestucca River bar is dangerous with strong currents and swells. Experienced boaters cross on the flood tide when possible. Always confirm current marine conditions in the NOAA NWS Forecast section displayed above.

Long sandy beaches at Cape Kiwanda and Bob Straub State Park deliver excellent walking beachcombing picnics and low tide exploration with dramatic views of Haystack Rock and the Pacific making Pacific City a popular destination for fishing families and shore activities on the northern Oregon coast.
