Beach Hazards Statement

Beach Hazards Statement issued June 13 at 2:50AM EDT until June 13 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Gray ME

* WHAT...Warm air temperatures in the 80s to low 90s may cause
people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water
temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60.

* WHERE...In Maine, Coastal York, Coastal Cumberland, Sagadahoc,
Lincoln, Knox and Coastal Waldo Counties. In New Hampshire,
Coastal Rockingham County.

* WHEN...From 8 AM EDT this morning through this evening.

* IMPACTS...The cold water temperatures can quickly cause
hypothermia to anyone immersed in the water. When the water
temperature is below 60 degrees, the average submerged person
could lose dexterity within minutes and be unable to
accomplish simple tasks. Anyone on boats or paddlecraft should
use extreme caution to avoid this threat.

Belfast (Guide)

Belfast on Penobscot Bay delivers reliable fishing for striped bass and bluefish and summer flounder from the waterfront or small boats with outgoing tides improving action near the river mouth. Public boat ramps at Belfast Harbor and the city marina provide convenient launches for bay trips targeting black sea bass and tautog. Beaches at Belfast waterfront and the adjacent Belfast Bay and Moose Point State Park deliver calm sand for family picnics swimming and shore casting with river views. The historic midcoast town setting makes tide planning straightforward.

Maine State Parks

Maine State Parks and beaches with coastal camping, reservations, day use fees, and rocky shoreline tidepooling

Belfast Harbor Beach Access (Other)

Public beach and shore access in Belfast Harbor on Penobscot Bay with gravelly shoreline, parking, picnic tables, and access for shore fishing, beachcombing, and low tide tide pool exploration on the rocky areas. Views of the bay and islands; tidal range exposes rocks and mudflats so plan visits around low tide for safe activities.

Belfast Harbor Marina Penobscot Bay (Other)

Public marina in Belfast on Penobscot Bay with slips, moorings, fuel, pump out, restrooms, showers, and direct access to the bay for boating, sailing, fishing, and exploring the midcoast Maine waters. Convenient transient dockage near downtown; strong tidal currents in the bay require caution for safe docking and navigation.

Belfast Public Boat Launch Penobscot Bay (Other)

Public boat launch ramp in Belfast on the Passagassawakeag River mouth with trailer parking, restrooms, and easy entry to Penobscot Bay for small boats, kayaks, and fishing trips. Close to historic waterfront and downtown; tidal flows affect ramp exposure and bay navigation so check tides for safe launches.
