Historic Civil War era masonry fort on Cockspur Island featuring visitor center trails exhibits and views over the Savannah River South Channel with opportunities to see the fort from the water or explore nearby marshes by boat or foot. Boaters can access surrounding waters via Lazaretto Creek to view the fort from the river perspective where strong tidal flows create dynamic conditions revealing sandbars oyster beds and supporting birdwatching shore fishing and scenic paddling around the island. National Park Service managed 3 lane public boat ramp with floating dock parking for vehicles and trailers plus a large fishing pier providing direct access to Lazaretto Creek South Channel of the Savannah River and nearby coastal waters near Fort Pulaski. Ideal launch point for small boats kayaks and trailered craft exploring the marshes oyster creeks and views of historic Fort Pulaski where tidal ranges influence water levels currents and expose more shoreline or shallow areas at low tide for enhanced paddling fishing and wildlife observation. Free facility open dawn to dusk offering convenient entry for day trips combining boating with park exploration and monitoring local tides for optimal timing in this scenic coastal area.

McQueens Island Rails to Trails (Other)

6 mile abandoned railroad trail on McQueens Island adjacent to Fort Pulaski offering hiking biking and scenic views over marshes Lazaretto Creek and the Savannah River South Channel for non motorized exploration. Trail provides peaceful access to coastal habitats with opportunities to observe wildlife birds and tidal influences revealing changing marsh features and enhancing nature walks or bike rides near boating areas. Managed in parts by Chatham County it serves as a great complement to water activities allowing visitors to experience the area shoreside while aware of nearby tides affecting the surrounding waters and Fort Pulaski vicinity.

Tybee Island North Beach (Other)

Public beach on the north end of Tybee Island with sandy shoreline access for swimming sunbathing walking picnics and low tide beachcombing offering expansive views toward the Savannah River mouth and Atlantic Ocean near Fort Pulaski. Excellent spot for shore fishing tide pool exploration and enjoying coastal scenery where tidal changes expose more intertidal zones and influence water conditions for relaxing beach days or combining with nearby boating launches. Parking and facilities available making it convenient for visitors interested in tide watching and nearby river sound activities in this vibrant barrier island setting.
