Carpinteria State Beach (Tide Pool)

Carpinteria State Beach south of Santa Barbara offers a safe, mile-long shoreline with excellent tide pools at the southern end during low tide, rich with sea stars, anemones, crabs, snails, octopuses, and sea urchins in a protected habitat known as the "world's safest beach." Camping and amenities available - perfect for families; seals often visible nearby.

Santa Barbara (Guide)

Santa Barbara on Californias Pacific coast is renowned for pier fishing at the iconic Stearns Wharf with no license needed for surfperch, mackerel, perch and halibut. Harbor charters target white seabass, rockfish and calico bass with lower tides exposing more structure and habitat. Check current CDFW regulations before heading out.

Boating and kayaking from Santa Barbara Harbor give easy access to the protected harbor waters and the scenic Channel Islands but the Santa Barbara Channel often has strong afternoon winds and currents. Always confirm current marine conditions in the NOAA NWS Forecast section displayed above.

Popular beaches like East Beach Leadbetter Beach and Arroyo Burro Beach offer excellent walking beachcombing and wildlife viewing with low tides revealing more shoreline and productive tide pools.
