Asilomar State Beach (Tide Pool)

In Pacific Grove just west of Monterey along Asilomar Avenue/Sunset Drive, Asilomar State Beach is a premier tidepool destination with expansive rocky shores and boardwalk trails leading to vibrant intertidal zones. At low tide, explore pools teeming with giant green anemones, purple sea stars, urchins, hermit crabs, chitons, mussels, barnacles, sculpins, nudibranchs, and swaying kelp forests - often with harbor seals or sea otters nearby. Highly family-friendly with easy access, parking, dunes boardwalks for viewing, and nearby conference grounds; a protected state marine reserve with docents sometimes present. Free entry (Discover Pass for parking); ideal for minus tides - sturdy shoes essential for slippery rocks.

Monterey, California (Guide)

Monterey on Monterey Bay offers excellent fishing for rockfish, lingcod, halibut and salmon from the Monterey Wharf and small boats with moving tides improving action near kelp beds and structure. Check current CDFW regulations before heading out.

The Monterey Marina and public boat ramps provide convenient launches slips and fuel for bay and coastal trips but strong tidal currents require careful planning for safe navigation. Always confirm current marine conditions in the NOAA NWS Forecast section displayed above.

Cannery Row and the waterfront beaches deliver excellent walking picnics and low tide exploration with scenic bay views making Monterey a premier destination for fishing boating and recreation on the central California coast.
