* WHAT...South swell from 190 degrees with a period of 14 to 16
seconds will generate surf of 3 to 6 feet with sets up to 7 feet
along south-facing beaches. High rip current risk. San Diego
County Surf will be slightly lower, but hazardous swimming
conditions with high rip current and longshore current risk will
still exist.

* WHERE...San Diego County Coastal Areas and Orange County
Coastal Areas.

* WHEN...From late tonight through Monday evening.

* IMPACTS...Hazardous swimming conditions with high rip current
and longshore current risk. If you become caught in a rip
current, yell for help. Remain calm and do not exhaust
yourself and stay afloat while waiting for help. If you have
to swim out of a rip current, SWIM PARALLEL TO SHORE and back
toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to swim
directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.

Corona del Mar State Beach (Tide Pool)

In Newport Beach (Orange County, about 1 hour from Los Angeles), Corona del Mar State Beach features rocky points and jetty-protected pools at low tide teeming with aggregating anemones, sea stars, hermit crabs, urchins, mussels, small fish, and occasional octopuses. Highly family-friendly with lifeguards, picnic areas, playgrounds, and calm waters; one of the most accessible urban tidepool spots in Southern California. Free street parking nearby - arrive early for minus tides.

Crescent Bay (Tide Pool)

In Laguna Beach (Orange County), Crescent Bay's northern rocky point creates sheltered tide pools at low tide with sea anemones, crabs, small fish, barnacles, and mussels. The crescent-shaped beach and clear waters make it scenic and family-oriented; nearby parks and amenities add convenience. Popular for sunset low-tide visits - water shoes recommended.

Crystal Cove State Park (Tide Pool)

In Laguna Beach (Orange County) within Crystal Cove State Park, the expansive rocky shores and historic district beaches offer vibrant, family-friendly tidepools with dramatic exposures during low tide. Pools harbor sea anemones, colorful sea stars, urchins, crabs, mussels, chitons, limpets, small fish, nudibranchs, and octopus in deeper crevices - plus stunning bluff views and underwater park protection. Highly accessible with parking, trails, beach cottages, ranger-led tours, and nearby tidepool touch tanks at the education center; great for combining exploration with hiking or picnics. Entry fee; minus tides reveal the best - water shoes recommended for rocky terrain.

Little Corona Beach (Tide Pool)

Adjacent to Corona del Mar in Newport Beach (Orange County), Little Corona Beach is a hidden gem cove with excellent, sheltered tide pools at low tide revealing aggregating anemones, sea stars, urchins, hermit crabs, mussels, small fish, and occasional octopuses. Smaller and less crowded than its neighbor; family-friendly with easy access via stairs, clear waters, and nearby parking - perfect for relaxed, intimate low-tide exploration in an urban setting.

Newport Beach (Guide)

Newport Beach features productive fishing for calico bass halibut and mackerel from the Balboa Pier or jetties with favorable tides increasing activity near the entrance. Shaws Cove (Tide Pool)

In Laguna Beach (Orange County), Shaw's Cove is a protected, secluded cove renowned for diverse tide pools and excellent snorkeling at low tide, teeming with sea stars, urchins, aggregating anemones, nudibranchs, octopuses, small fish, and hermit crabs in clear waters. A top spot for experienced explorers and families with older kids; stairs access from residential area with limited parking - less crowded than nearby beaches.
